Lithium – ion batteries should be stored in a cool, dry place, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources. To ensure optimal battery performance and safety, it is recommended to follow our storage guidelines.
First and foremost, lithium-ion batteries are much lighter, weighing less than half of traditional lead-acid batteries. They are not only lighter but also more powerful. This is because they use high-energy-density materials, ensuring ample power supply. Additionally, lithium-ion batteries have a low self-discharge rate, meaning they retain a significant charge even when disconnected and left in the garage for extended periods. Even with a lower capacity, the voltage of lithium-ion batteries does not drop easily. This means you can continuously operate the starter motor and start the engine more robustly.
Lithium-ion batteries incorporate an electronic component known as the Battery Management System (BMS) to ensure safe usage and balanced charging, which extends the battery’s lifespan. Inside a lithium-ion battery, several cells are connected in series to provide the voltage needed for motorcycle starting. However, these cells must be charged evenly to reach full capacity, necessitating close control by the BMS to balance the charge among the cells.
Overvoltage and overcurrent during charging can damage the battery’s electrodes. The BMS regulates the charging voltage and current, making it a crucial component.
Important Note: The positive and negative terminals of lithium-ion batteries should never be short-circuited. Additionally, pulse chargers should not be used, as they can damage the BMS.
While performance decreases in cold, VIRC starter batteries operate above -10°C. Unlike lead-acid batteries, VIRC’s low-resistance formula warms the battery during use, making subsequent starts more powerful and outperforming competitors in cold conditions.
Lifespan varies, but VIRC lithium starter battery double the lifespan of lead-acid batteries (typically 3–4 years vs. 1–2 years). Under ideal conditions, service life may reach up to 6 years.
